What’s new at Library and Archives Canada

  • Index of Upper Canada Land Petitions (1763-1865). According to LAC, “many early settlers, both military and civilian, submitted petitions to the Governor to obtain Crown land”. Typical petitions include military discharge certificates, United Empire Loyalists fleeing the American Revolutionary War and reparations to Upper Canada citizens who had suffered loss during the War of 1812. These records are worth checking for anyone who had ancestors that settled on a farm in Ontario between 1783 to 1865. http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/upper-canada-land/index-e.html
